Corinne’s 5th Birthday

March 18, 2020 7:53 pm

Even with the world melting down, not everything stops. So on Tuesday we celebrated Corinne’s birthday. Normally I would pare down the number of pictures I include in a post, but I think right now we could all use a little extra unbridled joy.

She had an absolutely fantastic day. After lunch she did her first birthday-treasure-hunt. Heather read the clues for her and she made mad dashes around the house to find the next thing as she solved each rhyme.

Once the presents were discovered in the bench we headed back inside to open them.

After presents I had to “go” back to work (meaning, hide in my closet/office). When I “got home” at the end of the day we had dinner and then it was time for the pink cake.

Corinne was having a hard time holding in her excitement.

And she was very pleased by the smoke trails.

Happy birthday little girl. I’m glad you could enjoy the day and not be weighed down by the cares of the world.

First Purchase

At Halloween Grandma sent Heather and Corinne each a $1.10 to buy something from the dollar store. Back in November we went over to the “99¢ Only Store” which is really the “99¢ and up store”, but still has lots of 99¢ stuff. Heather and Corinne perused the aisles and then got to line up for their first store purchase.

Their understanding of how cash works is pretty weak since they never see it used. But with some prompting they each got through their transaction and are now the proud owners of these balls.

It sprinkled a little in the morning, so Corinne insisted on having her umbrella. She was excited to go, but the day apparently wasn’t what she expected. She had a few meltdowns and was pretty sad at the end. But today (she goes, Mon., Wed., Fri.) was much better. Tears only when they announced who was getting the sharing bag and it wasn’t her.

Corinne’s Birthday 2019!

Corinne’s birthday fell on a Sunday this year, so we got to pack in a full day of celebrations. We started by opening presents.

Then we drove up to Walnut Creek for birthday lunch and ice-cream at the San Francisco Creamery (clearly not located in San Francisco). Then it was off to Tilden Regional Park to ride the steam trains and the carousel. Corinne wanted me to ride in the spinny seat with her the first ride so I needed an inner-ear break for the second ride.

After the park it was time to get the exhausted kids back home for cake and bed.

She’s a happy little girl. She’s been in preschool this year, 2 days a week for a couple hours each day. She has swim class on Mondays. And gymnastics on Wednesdays.
