Heather's Dance Recital 2017

June 14, 2017 8:54 pm

Heather had an absolute blast in this year's dance recital (as evidenced by the huge smile on her face through the entire dance).  Other than the rather stunning lack of theater etiquette displayed by a seemingly large chunk of the audience this year, it went great (seriously, who fully stands up from the front row during the middle of a performance to amble their way to the aisle and out of the theater!  Which meant my view was blocked completely during much of Heather's big solo!  Grrr!).

The theater provided some pictures (both audience and from the stage) as well as video.  My pictures turned out much better this year than in the past.  Not sure what was different, but they're definitely better.  Not amazing, but better.  The studio's pictures were all slightly over-exposed, so I'm glad I took a bunch of my own.

Not much more to say, so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.  Video at the bottom!

  1. I can't hear any sound for some reason. Is heather the oldest in her class? She definitely looks like the most on top of the choreography!!

    1. Hmm.. The audio works fine on my computer, but doesn't play on my phone for some reason. I'll look into it when I get a chance.

    2. Okay, the audio should work on phones now. They were using some weird stereo encoding that inverts the phase of the signal between left and right channels. Since almost all phones only have 1 speaker, they downmix the signal to mono before playing it and since the phase was inverted but the information is basically the same it ends up almost entirely canceling itself out and you end up with very quiet garbled noises.

Super frustrating. It took me about 2 hours to figure out what the problem was, then 8 seconds to fix.

  2. Very Cute! How many hours of other kids dancing did you have to endure in order to see her two minutes and what did it cost?

    1. Thankfully the studio breaks up their recitals into different sub groups. I think the overall performance we attended ran about an hour. But it's a racket, tickets are $20 a piece. In theory each dancer is supposed to sell some number of tickets, but we are not going to do that and they haven't tried to enforce it.
